Essex Steps

The Essex Steps approach is fundamentally centred on the Therapeutic Management of Behaviour and is successfully embedded in multiple authorities across southern England. Our training is a user-friendly approach which supports delegates to consistently understand, plan for and respond to prosocial, difficult and dangerous behaviour.

The programme is designed to provide high-quality understanding and training in the management of behaviour and the prevention of behaviour from escalating. It includes ethical restrictive physical intervention (restraint) training.

Essex Steps has the following aims:

      *  To support settings with developing a therapeutic approach to behaviour
      *  To promote the inseparable link between teaching, learning and behaviour
      *  To improve staff confidence and safety
      *  To support the inclusion of those with difficult or dangerous behaviours
      *  To reduce exclusions
      *  To support consistency within services
      *  To support Senior Leadership Teams in the development of quality policy and planning

The Essex Steps programme, delivered through Step On and Step Up courses, is designed to provide high quality understanding and training in the management of challenging behaviour. It includes ethical physical intervention and restrictive physical intervention (restraint) training.

Essex Steps is delivered by practitioners from the Essex Special School Education Trust and quality assured partner practitioners.

Essex Steps courses are available for Essex Mainstream and Special Schools.

STEP ON TUTOR TRAINING

This training will enable you to become a Steps Tutor to provide ‘Step On’ training and consultancy to staff within your own setting. Settings are encouraged to build a small team with a minimum of two tutors. These tutors can work together to continually influence practice as well as maintain ‘STEP ON’ certification within their setting.

The Steps Tutor course is able to provide the Essex Steps product to staff who already have a therapeutic attitude to children, an ability to present and an aptitude to efficiently acquire the Essex Steps skill set.

Essex Steps tutors are certificated to be a resource for the setting in which they work. Tutors are not certificated to provide training or consultation on a voluntary or paid basis outside of their own school setting.

Cost: £400 per delegate

Pending government guidance, these training sessions will be held as a face to face training session.
